MINUTES ANNUAL BUSINESS SESSION
OCTOBER 4, 2009
PLEASANT VALLEY BAPTIST CHURCH, AMARILLO
MODERATOR: JAMES PEACH, PASTOR, FRIO BAPTIST CHURCH, HEREFORD, TX
Messengers are on file in the Amarillo Area Baptist Association Office.
James Peach, Moderator, opened the meeting. Quorum was represented.
Wes Langham, Layperson, First Baptist Church, Amarillo made a motion, seconded by Julia Fisher, Layperson from Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Amarillo “ To seat all duly elected messengers from cooperating churches of the Amarillo Area Baptist Association.”
Motion carried.
J D Swinford, Layperson First Baptist Church, Canyon made a motion, seconded by Tammie Hill, Layperson from Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Amarillo “To follow the printed agenda, with the necessary modifications and/or changes as required during the course of the Business Session.”
Motion carried.
The Moderator called attention to the printed Minutes of the Executive Board Meetings since the last Annual Meeting (attached hereto). J D Swinford, Layperson, First Baptist Church,Canyon made a motion, seconded by Atilia Runyan, Pastor, Lamount Drive Baptist Church, Amarillo“ to approve the Minutes of the July 20, 2009 Executive Board Meeting.”
Motion carried.
REPORTS:
High Plains Christian Ministries Foundation and Baptist Community Services: Wes Langham, Vice President.
State Conventions: Baptist General Convention of Texas: John Silva
Southern Baptist of Texas Convention: Jared McIntire
Hope Welcome Center: Julia Fisher, Chairperson, Hope Welcome Center, Amarillo, TX
High Plains Retreat Center: Donnie Boyd, Chairman Board of Directors High Plains Retreat Center

FINANCE COMMITTEE:
Tom Foran, Business Administrator First Baptist Church, Amarillo and Chairman of the Finance Committee, brought a motion and second from the Finance Committee “ To accept the 2010 Budget as printed on yellow pages”(attached hereto.)
Motion carried.
PROPERTIES COMMITTEE:
A. Motion from the Properties Committee, Bro. Bob Miller, Pastor, South Georgia Baptist Church and Chairman Properties Committee: (coming from Properties Committee, no second needed)
The Properties Committee recommends that the roofs of the BSM and AABA buildings be replaced at a total cost of approximately $32,000, and that the AABA be authorized to borrow the necessary funds to accomplish this repair.
Notes:
1) $8,633.68 has been received from insurance
2) It is anticipated that a total of approximately $22,793 will be borrowed, probably in 2 stages (the BSM roof will not be replaced until late Spring 2010, due to the materials applied needing warmer weather)

MISSION DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL:
1) Report and recommendations from the Mission Development Council, Bryan Houser, Missions Coordinator, to accept the recommendation of the Mission Development Council for the AABA appoint a Task Force, comprised of : Chris Robeson (Coulter Road BC), Sam Rando (Genesis Church, Hereford), Roger Smith (Pleasant Valley BC), Chris Moore (Bykota), Chad Mantooth (Temple BC, Amarillo) and Jeff Ponder (FBC, Bushland) to study and bring recommendations concerning definitions, ministries and emphases related to “Church Health in line with priorities already adopted by the Association.
(Coming from Mission Development Council, no second needed). Recommendation on tan sheet.

2) Report and recommendations from the Mission Development Council, Bryan Houser, Missions Coordinator, to accept the recommendation of the Mission Development Council for the funding of new works in the Amarillo Area Baptist Association, (Coming from Mission Development Council, no second needed). Recommendation on tan sheet.
Motion carried.
PROGRAM COMMITTEE:
Annual Meeting---2010: The Standing Committee brings the following recommendation for next year’s AABA Annual Meeting.
